Chen Shaoji, former chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and former deputy secretary of the provincial party committee, who was under judicial investigation for corruption, has also served in the public security system for a long time. He once served as deputy secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, secretary of the Political and Legal Committee, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, and deputy secretary-general of the Provincial Political and Legal Leading Group.
Wang Huayuan, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, is under disciplinary inspection for corruption and disciplinary violations. Before he was investigated and punished, he served as secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection.
Sun Shuyi, chairman of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, who was dismissed at the end of last year, once served as a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee. Sun Shuyi is the highest-level official investigated and punished in Shandong Province since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. She is also the third provincial CPPCC chairman to be investigated and punished after Chen Shaoji (Guangdong) and Huang Yao (Guizhou).
The CCP’s disciplinary inspection departments investigated and punished more than 100,000 officials in 2009, including 3,743 officials at or above the county and division level, an increase of 10.8% from the previous year. Among them, a total of 764 officials at or above the county and division level were subject to judicial proceedings.
