How does China handle the sovereignty dispute in the South China Sea – Domestic News – Italian Xinhua Times, Xinhua Media Network

Q: Now that you’ve grasped the geopolitical implications of one of the world’s most important waterways, what’s next for you?

answer:

Writing this book was a real eye-opener for me. Most people’s common imagination of Chinese history is that it has been a unified single empire and civilization for at least the past 3,000 years, but this is actually a concept created from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

A study of how China created its territorial claims to the South China Sea in the early 20th century shows that the historical connections between China and its neighbors claimed by nationalist historians and geographers were based on misreading and misinterpretation of evidence. Of course, it’s not unusual for them to do this – every country has done it, especially in Europe. However, most places have experienced several waves of historical revision, criticizing this view of history. Academia is doing the same thing for China, although their work has not yet become mainstream.
