South Korea is increasing public and private investment to develop a new urban project in Vietnam based on South Korea’s new urban model, paving the way for the export of South Korean urban development. Japan’s Nikkei newspaper just described this futuristic city as “the fastest-growing mushroom metropolis in Southeast Asia.” It is currently taking off in Bac Ninh province.
According to the Ministry of Land Planning, Infrastructure and Transport, the two countries have agreed to cooperate on large-scale projects such as urban development and high-speed rail construction in the east of the South Asian country.
The future cities built by South Korea and Vietnam are part of the Urban Growth Partnership Program (UGPP) agreed upon during President Yun Seok-yeol’s visit to Vietnam in June 2023, aiming to support Korean companies and institutions in participating in the construction of the North – the country’s southern high-speed rail line.
