Koh Phangan’s famous full moon party attracted more than 9,000 visitors on Friday night, despite rumors of possible threats to Israeli tourists. The event coincides with the Loy Krathong festival, where Haad Rin beaches are crowded with Thai and foreign tourists.
To ensure the safety of tourists, Surat Thani police deployed additional personnel, including bomb squads and tourist police. The situation remained calm throughout the evening, with most revelers returning to their accommodation around 6.30am.
However, rumors of possible security threats have sparked concerns among tourism officials. Ratchaporn Poonsawat, chairman of the Samui Tourism Promotion Association, said he was concerned that such misinformation could harm tourism in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.
Despite this recent alarm, tourism in the region continues to improve, with significant increases in visitor numbers from Europe, India and South Korea. The upcoming December peak season is expected to attract more tourists to the islands.
The tourism authorities work closely with the security forces to maintain a high level of security and ensure that all visitors have a pleasant stay.
