Recently, Milan police and the local health bureau raided a Chinese butcher shop during an inspection and seized about 40 kilograms of meat products. According to the information provided by the police, the environmental sanitation of the Chinese butcher shop did not meet relevant standards. The shelves for storing goods were also rusty. The meat products were stored in containers that did not meet hygienic conditions. The meat products were seized outside the store. The bags lacked basic information such as production and expiry dates and were not frozen using normal storage methods.
During the search, the police also found that some food products had expired for more than a year, and some meat products only had labels written in Chinese on the outer packaging. The owner of the butcher shop is a 56-year-old Chinese immigrant. The health bureau fined the shop owner 6,000 euros based on Italy’s relevant food preservation laws and commercial business premises hygiene management regulations (lack of cleaning equipment including basic requirements).
