Our friend Jean-Michel Gallet regularly provides us with excellent chronicles of Laos. This time, his illustrated travelogue is devoted to Cambodia’s rice fields. Here we recreate the beginning.
Don’t hesitate to download his route manual. It’s well illustrated, very detailed, and well written. Part of the soul of Cambodia.
Every country has its symbols. As for Cambodia, their name is Angkor, they have a tortured history (Khmer Rouge), and their rural landscape still alternates between rice paddies and sugar palm trees. However, the campaign’s vision does not stand up to scrutiny. The rural world of Cambodia has undergone profound changes over the past fifteen years (1). Exceptions, such as the use of hands to harvest rice harvests, then challenge the observer and lead him to question the apparent persistence of this farming method.
Jean-Michel Gallet’s complete documentation can be found and downloaded here.
